What if I Already Went Too Far Physically?

We have a God that forgives! None of us can change our past, no matter how difficult it is to deal with. Just as God is near to the brokenhearted (Ps. 34:18) he wants us to warn others not to hurt Christ with our same mistakes. Second Corinthians 1:3-4 encourages us to “comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” The memories will always be there, but as we walk closer with the Lord they will fade into the past. Read this encouragement from your God carefully. -Isaiah 43:18-21, 25—Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland… to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise. I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more (emphasis added). Sins are Forgiven God chose to send Jesus to die for your sins and mine—our propitiation. Propitiation refers to Jesus Christ standing in our place for our sin, receiving the full wrath of God, so that we would be reconciled to God. In His death on the cross, He took on our sins and experienced the full wrath of God. Second Corinthians explains this declaring,“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Cor. 5:17-21, Ps. 32:1-2). While our sins are no less disgusting in God’s sight, if you have given your life to Jesus He stands between you and the wrath of God. He paid for all your sins past and future…in full! We are washed clean and pure in Christ’s blood. God says He does this for His own sake so that His people will praise Him (Isa. 43:21, 25). Our purpose in life is to bring glory to God and share His grace with others! All sins, including sexual sins, have been forgiven in Christ! Amen. Do not Dwell on the Past God also orders us not to dwell on the sins of our past, because He knows how destructive that will be to our relationship with Him. If we dwell on the past (as secular counselors will advise with introspection) we will be discouraged, hopeless, and left mulling over the past, missing the future God desires for us (our new life in Christ). Satan defeats us in the guilt of our past or in the frustration of the past sins of others, never in the hope of our future. But don’t hear me wrong, God gave us memories and there is a place for remembering our sins. The remembrance of our past sins and past mercies should lead us to constant repentance and thankfulness to God. Therefore follow Christ’s advice to lead a pure life for this point on: Romans 6:12-14—Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. If you have already given yourself away physically, God can restore you. Repent (i.e. repentance is an action of turning away from and putting on), have faith in His perfect healing, and live in obedience from now on in the power of the Spirit.

Psalm 32:1-3— Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit. Living a life of physical purity may strain relationships—but it will only strengthen your depth in Christ, who is your Great Knight in Shining Armor! So as you wait for God to fulfill the desires of your heart—“fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of your faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart” (Hebrews 12:2-3, adapted). The Lord understands your physical desires; after all He created your body and hormones! Waiting until marriage to unwrap that intimate part of your being is the best possible enjoyment of God’s gift. You will most flourish by having sex as God designed. Isaiah 64 praises God for the awesome work He has done in the lives of His people. In verse four we read, “Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” Remaining pure in a scandalous world is near impossible—that is why we do not use our strength to make it to the finish line, we will fail. Instead, we suit up for battle and call on the One who already holds the weight of the world on His shoulders. We march through the filth and deceit chanting God’s promise of rescue: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. No temptation has seized me except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let me be tempted beyond what I can bear. But when I am tempted, he will also provide a way out so that I can stand up under it (Philippians 4:13, 1 Cor. 10:13).
